In my family sessions, I capture the genuine essence of your unique story through a natural, unposed approach. With a genuine love for children, I strive to create a tranquil and playful atmosphere where your little ones can be themselves, allowing their personalities to shine through.

Rather than stiff poses, I prefer to capture families engaged in meaningful activities, whether it’s baking cookies in the kitchen, playing games in the backyard, or simply snuggling on the couch. By choosing locations that feel like home, we can create images that not only look beautiful but also evoke a sense of warmth and nostalgia.

 Setting the scene

CAPTURING THE REAL

When it comes to documenting your love story, I embrace a hands-off approach. I am not just interested in capturing posed portraits; I am passionate about capturing the real moments — the stolen glances, the spontaneous laughter, the quiet embraces. My documentation style is all about capturing the essence of your love in its purest form. When I do direct, I do so through movement-driven prompts that allow your true personalities to shine through.

A SEA-LIKE SPACE

With “Maris” being derived “from the sea”, I hope to create an environment that feels as such - tranquil, safe, calming, inspiring, and soulful. I create images that not only reflect a season of life but that also serve as cherished memories for years to come. Whether you’re exchanging vows on a beach, exploring the streets of a charming city, chasing your kids around in a field, or simply cuddled up at home, you can trust me to create space just as special as the photos themselves.

EMOTION-EVOKING EDITING

My commitment to storytelling doesn’t end with artfully capturing the moment itself. It is woven within the belief that photographic editing plays a crucial role in enhancing the narrative of your love story. That is why I draw inspiration from the cinematic essence of romantic movies, the nostalgic graininess of film, and the classical expression and rich coloring of a Renaissance oil painting to create images that evoke emotion and inspire a sense of nostalgia.

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! I love to travel. I don't have a set travel rate as the cost of travel is so different in every location. I ask that a roundtrip flight for me and my assistant (I do not travel to locations alone for safety purposes), accommodations, and rental car is taken care of. If the travel is within driving distance, there will be a charge for anything past 50 miles from my home. If it's past 100 miles from my home there will be a charge as well as accommodation requirement.

  • No. I do not send raw images as I believe half of my artistry is in the editing process! In order to achieve that cinematic nostalgic feel to my digital images, editing is where all the magic happens.

  • I will not alter the way you look other than minor skin blemishes. You are beautiful the way you are. If you are self conscious about something just let me know so I can do my best to work around it in posing.

  • If we have already booked your session your deposit is non-refundable. If you would like to reschedule at a different date a new deposit must be made to hold your spot.

  • If you take me to any of my bucket list locations I’ll shoot for extra time and give you more photos, and include a pack of polaroid or roll of film. Bucket

List locations: France, Ireland, New Zealand, Iceland, Italy, Alberta Canada, Netherlands, UK Countryside, Spain, Greece, Japan, Switzerland

  • If the weather is so bad that our safety, and my gear is at risk then I will happily reschedule our time together. However I encourage you to embrace the rain! It can add a really unique and dramatic element to your photos!

  • Absolutely! A 50% deposit is due at contract signing. However if you needed to split the second payment I would be happy to accommodate that.

  • I will always encourage you to wear what you feel most comfortable and confident in. Looser fitting and free flowing fabrics typically photograph best. Neutral colors go well with several environments. During our Zoom call before our shoot we can talk about outfits and what will look best against the backdrop of our environment.

  • Here are some things to note that I will implement during our shoot together:

Location matters a lot. It sets the stage for the artwork we're creating together and is very important for storytelling. I will help of course choose the best location to get the most out of your images. To go along with location the time of day is important, while I feel confident in most any lighting condition, sunrise or sunset is the most optimal lighting for those rich golden tones.

Consider an activity and/or prop! To get the most authentic storytelling experience in your images I always like to recommend an activity to do, it can be something as small as getting an icecream cone, or as adventurous as surfing. Posing will come second nature to you as you are doing the thing you love to do.

And lastly something that we can work on together is a mood board! I would love to see what you're envisioning for your shoot, I then will build off of your ideas to make sure it;s exactly what you're looking for. Color, textures, artwork, landscapes, really anything you're drawn to set the vibe of you shoot!
